Rumford Fireplaces
Rumford Fireplaces were invented by Count Rumford, or Sir Benjamin Thompson, who was a physicist known for his study on heat. It is designed to be at an angle in order to push heat into the room, while simultaneously pushing smoke out, releasing minimal heat. They became popular shortly after Thompson wrote about them in 1790 before falling out of favor in the late 19th century, before making a resurgence in recent years.
